Big Wild Swamp

Store Vildmose is a raised bog covering 60 km2, which has been formed by precipitation and consists of lush, green nature. Follow the footsteps of the past on the rows of stepping stones and feel the bog rock underneath you. If you don’t want to jump from stone to stone, you can also stay on the sturdy wooden pathways.

The high bog is a type of nature that can only be experienced at a few locations in Denmark. In the spring, plants emerge in Store Vildmose, which acquires shapes and colour as the bog blooms with bell heather and carnivorous sundew, and is filled with red, edible cranberries. Red deer wander freely, and from the observation tower at Manna Mosevej you can observe the many swans, geese and birds of prey that visit during the winter period.

The bogland is divided up into eight areas, which are marked by signs, each of which informs you about natural and cultural history. In addition, you can learn more in the experience centre Vildmoseporten, located in a rustic red wooden barn.
