Mandø

The island that can only be reached at low tide

Take the tractor bus and experience tides on Mandø, a unique small island located in the middle of the Wadden Sea, the world's largest tidal area. The Wadden Sea National Park is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, and is also Denmark's largest national park. The island is Denmark's only island that can only be reached at low tide.

When the tide flows in over the flat area, you can experience how the gravel road to the mainland is flooded. It happens twice a day and is a pretty unique experience.

Bird migration and black sun

Mandø is an international bird protection area, and every spring and autumn the island acts as a resting place for several million migratory birds. During the same period, you can experience the phenomenon of black sun, when about a million starlings set in motion at the same time and almost darken the sun before they calm down again in the reed forests.

Experience tides and seal safaris with the tractor bus

At low tide, the island's area is expanded to also include the large sandbank Koresand. On the southern part of Koresand is a seal sanctuary, and from Mandø it is possible to go on a seal safari with a tractor bus. Remember to look in the sand. If you are lucky, you can also find amber in the sand on Koresand.

  1. A unique nature experience in the Wadden Sea

Tranquility and peace in a unique nature. Stay at the campsite there simply and peacefully with the sweetest service from Mandø Brugs. They help with everything from driving times across the Loan Road to supplies. Take the new amphibious vessel Mandøpigen on a seal safari in the Wadden Sea and get a very special experience. Also by tractor bus to Koresand a 30 km2 large sand desert SV for Mandø.
