Hiking routes in North Jutland 2024

There are many wonderful hiking routes in North Jutland. In fact, 3 out of Denmark's 4 "Premium Hiking Routes" - trails certified by the German Hiking Institute - are located here!

We have compiled an overview of all the good trips in this guide, where you sheep:

Short walks (3 - 10 km)

Aalborg during the occupation

Follow in the footsteps of the Churchill group and get stories about the resistance movement, the Gestapo and historical hotspots from World War II.

3 km – 4 km – 6 km – 8 km – 10 km 

The panoramic route in Bramslev Bakker

Try one of Denmark's most beautiful hiking routes by Mariager Fjord.
The 10 km long family-friendly route offers a bit of everything - both flat areas, slopes and several hilly areas - so the view is always new and exciting.

And the good does not stop here:

In addition to the beautiful nature, you can also experience countless traces from the past - including stone tombs, settlements, stone coffins, railway tracks and marl tombs!

9 km 

The Tanghus routes on Læsø

Læsø's unique seaweed roof is well on its way to becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take the two routes at Stoklund and Gl. Østerby and get stories about the houses you pass.

6 km – 12 km

Wonderful hike

The branch track

4 routes of varying length that take you past Grenen's beautiful highlights such as The Grå Fyr, the Vippefyret, Drachmann's Grave and of course Denmark's northernmost point, where you can stand with your feet in two gardens.

3 km – 7 km – 8 km – 9 km 

Around Egholm

5 minutes sailing from Aalborg you will find the small island of Egholm. The island is only 6 km² in size and has approx. 50 residents, but here is full of experiences.

6 km 

Planet path in Fjerritslev

Experience the solar system on a scale on the Planetstien in Fjerritslev. Start at the sun sculpture and follow the planets out to Kollerup Strand.

4 km 

Nisseruten

Take the children on the imaginative 3.6 km hiking route, and see if you can find all the elves on the trip.
On the route you will both meet large climbing trees and walk over fun hills - here is room for lots of activities with the kids.

Do you walk a little away from the route:

Will you be able to meet Læsøstenen, which marks the place where you could first spot Læsø coming up the Kattegat 3,000 years ago!

4 km 

Nymølle Bæk

Put on the good shoes and walk through Nymølle Bæk's hilly terrain, where you can meet a little of everything in the scenic area.

White anemones, beech buds, junipers and common chanterelles:

What would you like to see? Throughout the year, each of these is part of the 4 km long hike in the beautiful nature at Nymølle Bæk.

5 km 

Guldharald

Despite the relatively short distance of 4.7 km, the route is packed with experiences. See both areas with inland dunes, animal reserves and beautiful views of the Kattegat coast.

And if you are lucky:

After crossing Strandvejen, you may come across the local “past monster” Vivatar Fowl!

Lengths: 1, 3, 6 and 7.5 km 

Tversted Islands and Tversted Klitplantage

Come for a walk in North Jutland's oldest dune plantation, and walk around lakes, through the dunes and reach down to the sandy beach out by Tannisbugten.
The quality trail is 7.5 km long, and even passes the beautiful Østerklit Stokmølle.

And there is also something for the kids:

At the parking lot, there is a large nature playground, which is a perfect break from the hike for the younger - or playful - part of the family.

4 km 

The Savbjerg route

Come on a 4 km round trip through the northernmost part of Tved Klitplantage and along the edge of Hanstholm wildlife reserve - Denmark's largest wilderness!

Get a view that is worth all the steps:

On the north side of the route you can go out to the viewing platform, and on the south part you can get out to the lookout tower so you can get a great view!

3 – 5 km 

Hammer Bakker

Move through coniferous and deciduous forests, past Pebermosen and up on Tvillingehøjen - 60 meters above the surrounding land in southern Vendsyssel - and get a view you will soon forget!

And the 5 km long route even offers more than that:

In the beautiful area you can also meet larger areas with different berries, which are often surrounded by many different butterflies - and bird species.

3 km 

Ydby Hede

In Ydby Hede you can move out on a short hike of 3.5 km through the country's largest collection of burial mounds from the Bronze Age.

And are you just crazy about nature:

Then on the route you can have the opportunity to experience many beautiful natural areas, and even get a view of Doverkil, where many beautiful and rare plants grow!

Medium-length trips (10 - 20 km)

4 km – 11 km – 11 km – 15 km 

Rebild Bakker Route

Try what is rated to be, Denmark's best hiking route!
The Rebild Bakker Route is one of the 4 hiking routes in Denmark that has been judged as a "premium hiking route" by the German Hiking Institute.

During the route's 11 km - which can also be shortened to 4 or 8 km - you will be led through the national park, beautiful crooked trees and beautiful open landscapes.

11.5 km 

Weddings Around

Mariager Rundt takes you past prehistoric sites, where you both enter Mariager's idyllic town center with cobbled streets and half-timbered houses and out into beautiful nature with varied terrain, including passes Hohøj, Scandinavia's largest Bronze Age mound, and right down to the fjord's water's edge. And then you will also pass the troll Ivan Evigvår...

2 km – 12 km 

The clover paths

The clover paths are a nationwide concept, where several good hiking routes have been created in the local areas, so you can get out and rediscover your hometown - or rent tourists in other cities. And there's probably one near you!

There are different lengths of routes so there is something for everyone.
In addition, it is possible to walk, cycle and even ride a wheelchair on some of the routes!

11 km 

Tranum-Fosdalen

This hiking route is also one of Denmark's "premium routes."
Here you are led through densely populated forests on footbridges, through beautiful areas with water and up to the highest point of Jammerbugten in Bravnehøj.

Is 11 km a perfect distance for you?

If not, you can shorten the trip several times on the route.

Long trips (20+ km)

60 km – 313 km 

Hærvejen

Follow in the footsteps of our ancestors - and experience Denmark's oldest trade route, Hærvejen. This historic road stretches through beautiful landscapes and offers a unique journey through time and nature.

On Hærvejen you can experience the special atmosphere of adventure and history. The walk along this ancient trade route allows you to explore villages, forests, fields and open spaces. Enjoy the sight of historical monuments, burial mounds and cultural-historical sights that bear witness to the journeys and events of the past.

55 km 

Walk around Læsø

Læsø is a fantastic island in all seasons and is also becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its kelp roofs and sea salt.

Take a hike and go around Læsø Rundt, a 55 km hiking route that takes you past a multitude of the island's highlights.

The experienced hiker can do the trip in one day, but otherwise it is recommended to spend the night in Østerby.
