Routes Islands
At Tverstedsøerne (the Tversted lakes), yellow and white water lilies cover the surface of the water. The lakes are located at the edge of Tversted Klitplantage, North Jutland’s oldest dune plantation. You can take a walk around the lakes, and easily cross the dunes and go down to the wide sandy beach next to the bay, Tannisbugten.

Many attractive plants grow in the area around the lakes at Tversted. During the summer months, water lilies bloom in the lakes, as well as protected orchids, heartleaf twayblade and rattlesnake plantain in the plantation and bloody cranesbill in the dunes. Mallards and coots are also regular visitors to the lakes. North-east of the lakes is Denmark’s last functioning mill of the ‘stokmølle’ type. It dates to 1912 and is located at the top of a barn. The name ‘stokmølle’ comes from the heavy timber that bears the sails of the windmill.
There are several marked walking routes in the area, as well as the national cycling route, the West Coast Route, which passes through Tversted Klitplantage. A large nature playground for children, parking spaces and toilets are all located south of the Lakes at Tversted.

From the parking lot at Tverstedsøerne you can take a walk on the blue quality trail, which is a 7.5 km long hiking route, which goes past the beautiful Østerklit Stokmølle and out to Skiveren, from where the trip goes home through Tversted Klitplantage.

It is not impossible to move on parts of the trails around Tverstedsøerne, but as a starting point the area is not very handicap friendly.
