Monnet

Hiking route with magnificent views of the Funen Archipelago

The magnificent nature area in southern Tåsinge offers a 5 km long half-day trip out through one of Denmark's largest and protected beach meadows. Already from the start of the trip you can glimpse the goal, Vårø knot, in the distance. The landscape on Monnet is so flat that you can look far into the horizon throughout the trip.

On the green surfaces, which are divided by runoff channels, cattle graze, which helps to keep the beach meadow open. The open beach meadow is very attractive for a number of waders, so there is both the opportunity to experience birds and cattle on your hike.

The destination of the trip is the moraine tuber Vårø Knude, where, among other things, there is a beautiful view of the islands Strynø and Birkholm. In late summer, you can experience budgerigars in large flocks from the top of Vårø Knude. This is a spectacular sight, as they almost form a bond between Strynø and Birkholm, and as the swans at this time of year shed their flying feathers, they cannot fly anywhere.

Attractions

  • At the end of Monnet is Vårø Knude, which is an 8 meter high knot. From here you can enjoy a unique view of the Funen archipelago.
  • A stone tower, which previously divided Monnet in two, is still partially left behind. Half of the dike was demolished around 1960.
  • Several places on the route you can see dome-shaped tufts, which are overgrown with grass. Here lives the yellow meadow ant, and some of the tufts are up to 80 years old.
  • The bird tower, which stands in the northern corner of the beach meadow, can be visited all year round, and from the tower there are views over the whole area.
