Viking Museum Lindholm Høje
Are you interested in history and want an authentic insight into the Viking Age and ancient Denmark?
The Viking museum on Lindholm Høje offers two large exhibitions which give an insight into part of ancient Denmark. Including the opportunity to see the burial ground at Lindholm Høje, which is one of Denmark's most beautiful monuments of the past.
Experience the everyday life of the Vikings
One of Lindholm Høje's two large exhibitions brings you closer to what life was like for the Vikings in Lindholm Høje more than 1,000 years ago.
Archaeological finds from the area are unfolded, and tell you about everyday life and thus the basis of the Viking Age.
It is also possible for you to try on a virtual Viking helmet, and then you can try rowing in an interactive Viking boat. One of many recommended experiences for children in North Jutland.
Antiquity in Limfjordlandet
The museum's second exhibition spreads out into the Limfjordslandet, and deals with life in ancient times, which spans several thousand years.
Archaeological finds from Limfjordslandet, in this exhibition, give you an insight into the actions, needs and wishes of ancient man.
With your senses you are led closer to the man of the past. Old-time boy Svinkasven leads you through the exhibition via 7 soundtracks, so you get a good insight into what life was like in the Limfjord area many years ago.
The grave site at Lindholm Høje
In addition to the two exhibitions, you have the opportunity to get up close to a special burial ground that was used right from the Late Iron Age and through the Viking Age. Stone settings on the mound mark over 700 graves, from the period AD 400 to approximately the year 1000.
The shape of these different stone settings gives, among other things, an insight into whether it is a man or a woman who is buried in the particular place.
The burial site on Lindholm Høje has been preserved due to sand drift, which over time completely covered the area.
