Store Blåkilde
With its clear blue color, Store Blåkilde is known as one of the most beautiful springs in the area. It is located south of Madum lake, and is one of Denmark's largest basin springs. The source basin measures 12 meters at its widest point and is 4-5 meters deep.
Store Blåkilde's pure blue color is due to the fact that part of the bottom consists of light lime and calcareous sand, which, in conjunction with the crystal clear water, gives the spring its completely fairy-tale blue color. The water in Store Blåkilde has a temperature of 7-8 degrees all year round.
The spring is protected, it is therefore strictly forbidden to collect animals and to bathe in the spring.
In addition, it must be said that it is forbidden to bathe in the spring and there are recommendations in the area to keep your distance from the banks, as they can appear very swampy and unstable.
There are parking options at Møldrupvej, here there is both a table, a set of benches and a WC.
A little history of the area:
It would be logical to think that Store Blåkilde got its name from the beautiful sapphire blue color, however there are also stories that the name is derived from Blotkilde (sacrificial spring). The local stories say that offerings from ancient times have been fished out of the blue spring.
Most of us are also familiar with the term wishing well, here sources have been part of the same superstition. In the last century, the lord of Willestrup threw silver coins into the spring before riding out hunting.
It is recommended that you set aside 1 to 2 hours for the trip.
There is parking close to the path that leads to Store Blåkilde, this is located on the stretch between Møldrupvej 26 and 28, 9510 Arden.
