Christiansborg Castle

Christiansborg Castle is an impressive building located on Slotsholmen in Copenhagen and is one of Denmark's most iconic and historic buildings. The castle is home to the Danish parliament, the Folketinget, as well as other central institutions in Denmark, including the State Ministry, the Supreme Court and the Royal House.

History

Christiansborg Castle has a long and fascinating history dating back to the 12th century, when a castle was built on the site. The current building was constructed in the mid-18th century following a series of fires that destroyed earlier versions of the castle.

During the century, Christiansborg Castle was rebuilt and expanded several times, and it was not until the middle of the 20th century that the building got its current form. However, the castle was destroyed by fire in 1992 and it was rebuilt and reopened in 1996.
