After winning the award in May 2019, we took the trip to Rømø to try out the place and present the diploma:
Much more than an ice cream parlor
Initially we would just pay a little visit and maybe let Fru Dax's 'Giant Ice Cream' make up our lunch but when we meet Maria it is in the adjoining cafe of the ice cream parlor where lunch is already well underway.
After talking to Maria and handing over the diploma we agree to try out some of the cafe's specialties for lunch. We decide on Fru Dax's Tapas plang and the popular 'stjerneskud' which is an open faced sandwich with bread and different kinds of delicious fish.
We get a Marsh Wheat from the local brewery Ribe Bryghus, which is said to be an ideal lunch beer for the more than well-proportioned and tasty dishes. In fact we have to admit that there is no room for what we came for - the ice cream.
Freshly baked waffles - an award winning recipe?
So what is it that makes Fru Dax something special that makes so many people vote for them for Denmark's Best Ice Cream Parlor? According to several we have talked to and heard from much of the secret lies in the freshly baked ice cream cones. At Fru Dax the cones are made on the spot:
After being in the seventh waffle baking heaven we obviously had to try the place's specialty - Fru Dax's Giant Waffle:
We are served the freshly baked cones and decide to go to Lakolk Beach to enjoy the Giant cone:
...and an old-fashioned ice cream cone:
We can honestly say that if you haven't yet visited Denmark's Best Ice Cream Parlor 2019 then you have to get going! Fru Dax - Yes please!
