In the middle of the 435-hectare beech wood of Jægersborg Hegn is Bøllemosen – an old peat bog containing unique animal and plant life. Bøllemosen was previously an ordinary lake, but gradually became overgrown and developed into a raised bog. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the bog was used for the digging of peat.

The approximately 10-hectare bog offers a very special natural experience involving flora and fauna, making it a popular destination for insect and mushroom collectors. Plants grow in the bog that has adapted to the special conditions, and you can, for example, find the carnivorous plant sundew. There is a walking platform across the bog that allows you to remain dry footed while encountering the wonderful nature. You can bring along your own food to eat at the picnic places and if you want to stay overnight amidst the natural surroundings, you can reserve one of the shelters at the camp at Strandmøllen.

If you want to experience the forest surrounding Bøllemosen by bicycle, follow the many paths and forest roads in the area, but please note that you’re not allowed to cycle on the forest floor or the slopes. If you come to Jægersborg Hegn by car, you can use the woodland car park close to Skodsborg Station.
