In the heart of North Jutland, in the idyllic town of Gudumholm, lies a brewery that has made a name for itself not only in Denmark, but also internationally: Bad Seed Brewing. With a combination of traditional brewing art and modern innovation, this brewery has managed to create beers that have resonated with critics and regular beer lovers alike.
The history
The story of Bad Seed Brewing begins with the owner, Fredrik Schmidt. He started his career as a beer brewer in Copenhagen in 2015, where for a number of years he was a phantom brewer, hiring out to other breweries to make his beers and deliver them to the bars. But it wasn't long before he decided to move his passion and expertise to North Jutland. He chose Gudumholm, a town 20 km from Aalborg, as the home of the brewery and took over the historic Landkær Sodavand premises. This choice of location gave the brewery a unique atmosphere where tradition meets innovation.
Since its establishment, Bad Seed Brewing has experienced remarkable growth. From being a one-man operation, Fredrik has expanded the team, and now Bad Seed Brewing consists of three dedicated employees. They produce approximately 80-90 thousand liters of beer per year. The brewery is particularly known for its lager beers, lagers and classics.
But what has also put Bad Seed Brewing on the map is the prestigious title of "Brewery of the Year 2022", which they won at the Danish Beer Blogger Awards. This recognition is a testament to the quality, passion, time, energy and creativity that Fredrik and his team put into their craft. As Fredrik himself stated at the award, it is an incredible feeling when what you are passionate about is appreciated by those who buy and enjoy their beer.
Where you can taste their beer
The brewery in Gudumholm is only open once in a while for events, but you will find Frederik in a large number of bars, beer shops and restaurants with a better beer selection. And otherwise you can always buy in the brewery's webshop and have it sent to your door.
Bad Seed Beer Fest
Since 2019, Bad Seed Brewing has held the Bad Seed Beer Fest at Studenterhuset in Aalborg. The festival offers a selection of excellent brews from both Denmark and abroad from some of Denmark and Europe's best breweries.
The festival is divided into two unique sessions, with each brewery presenting two different beers per session. In 2023, there will be e.g. 24 breweries and with 2 taps for each brewery, and thus 48 draft beer taps, which change between sessions, the participants are approx. 100 different beers in total ensure a varied taste experience. The ticket gives free access to taste all beers during the festival, meaning you can enjoy a wide range of beer styles during the four hours a session lasts.
In addition to beer tasting, the festival is also an opportunity to meet the people behind the brew, as all participating breweries send representatives. For those who love new flavors, the Bad Seed Beer Fest is an event not to be missed.
