Agersø

A beautiful island between the Great Belt and the Småland waters

Agersø is located between the Great Belt and Smålandsfarvandet. The island has an area of about 7 km2 and houses 174 inhabitants. You can hop on the ferry in Stigsnæs and the trip only takes about 15 minutes.

Agersø is perfect for cycling, as the island is actually almost completely flat. The highest point on the island is 12 meters above sea level and it has been described that if you stand on a beer crate, no matter where on the island, you will be able to look all the way to the water.

When you visit Agersø, you can visit the island's church. It can be dated back to 1872 but it was a long way along. In the old days, the residents of Agersø and the neighboring island of Omø were actually forced to commute from their respective islands and into Skælskær, as there were no churches on the islands. In Skælskør, they dedicated chapels dedicated to the islanders, and to this day the chapels are still called the Agersø and Omø chapels. Omø got its own church as the first, and in 1805 a church was also built on Agersø. However, it was not completed and later demolished and only in 1872 was the present church consecrated.

You can also go out and see Agersø Mill, which can be dated back to 1892. The mill has had several owners over the years, but in 1976 was voluntarily handed over by the owner to the Agersø population, and today stands as a beautiful attraction on the island.
