Æbelø

An island without disturbances

Æbelø is located in the Kattegat north of Funen and here there is no ferry crossing. You can, on days with low tide, walk all the way to the island. The island is only approx. 2 km2 and is uninhabited. It is therefore a gem where nature is allowed to live its own life, without intervention and change.

The island was abandoned in the 1960s and then the various buildings that had previously characterized the landscape were removed. Later, the island was bought by the Age V. Jensen Nature Foundation, which works to restore nature on the island and let it flourish without disturbance.

Unique experiences

You can choose to take the trip to the island yourself, so it would be a good idea to check up on the tide schedule before you plan your trip. It varies a lot and you may end up having gone to the island and then can not come back again as the tide is the place in the meantime. It is also an opportunity to book a guided tour to Æbelø, where you will be told stories about the island. The guided tour is approx. 15-18 km and you must bring your own food and other necessities. Otherwise, just enjoy the beautiful kilometers both through the water and around the island in the unspoilt nature that the island has to offer.

As the island is not inhabited, there are no accommodation or dining options on the island - so it would be a good idea to pack a good packed lunch if you decide to visit the beautiful island.

Frequently asked questions

When you are at the parking lot at Lindøhoved, you will be able to start your trip through the water. The trip is marked with poles and is approx. 1.5 km long.

  1. Attention!

Very important: As described in the article - make sure to get an up-to-date timetable! The difference between high water and low water can be more than 70 centimeters.
If you can, do not visit Æbelø on weekends. If the parking lot at the beginning of the Ebbeweges is full, then they have to turn around and try it on another day.
On weekends with good weather, the island simply overflows!
When walking the sunbathing path, use sunscreen with a high light protection factor. Pay special attention to the legs and there the kneecaps.
Do not leave the pointed roads.
Respect nature. Do not pick plants and do not disturb animals.
