Omø

Omø is located southwest of Skælskør and has an area of 4.5 km2. Omø is the neighboring island to Agersø and the ferry crossing therefore also goes here from Stigsnæs. It takes approx. 50 minutes to sail to Omø. The island houses about 190 permanent residents. 

Omø's highest point is 24 meters above sea level, and on a clear day it will be possible to see all the way to Funen, Sprogø, Langeland, Femø, Fejø, Lolland, Vejrø, Glænø, Zealand and the neighboring island Agersø. 

There are different experiences on the island and one of them is Omø Lighthouse. It was built back in 1893-94 and became nationally known back in 2001 when Nils Thorsen, a journalist from Dagbladet Politiken, chose to live in the lighthouse keeper's residence for a month, where he made a daily report about the island and its inhabitants. The lighthouse is 22 meters high and stands beautifully on Omø's west coast. In addition, you can take a stroll past the House of History which contains all the island's archives, or Omø's beautiful church. 

Omø is very flat and it is therefore ideal to rent a bike and take the trip around the beautiful landscape. On the trip around the island you will for example be able to see the 24 meter high forest cliffs, and here you can get a glimpse of the dike swallow which has its nests in the cliffs. At the same time, you will be able to decipher layers in the cliffs that come from the glaciers that were here back in the ice age. You can also pass Omø Lake or Draget which is one of the beautiful beaches on the island.
