History

The story of Hotel Alsik began in 2006 with architect Frank Gehry's master plan, which envisaged a complete restructuring of the former industrial port. Sønderborg's citizens were invited to contribute their ideas, and almost 800 proposals were integrated into this plan. On October 31, 2008, the plan was presented by Frank Gehry and included 10 construction projects. One of these projects was Hotel Alsik. Bitten & Mads Clausens Fond, the owners of Danfoss, together with the credit union PFA Pension, invested over DKK 600 million in the project. The architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects, which was also behind the Opera on Holmen, was responsible for the realization of the hotel construction.
