Nivaagaard Rhododendron Park

Romantic garden

Nivaagaard's romantic garden is definitely worth a visit, from around the end of May and the beginning of June, the rhododendrons are in their splendour. Here you will be able to see the garden in a multitude of different colours. Some rhododendron varieties may even bloom an extra time in September. Most of the park is open to the public.

The park belongs to Den Hageske Stiftelse, but when the previous owner created the park it was originally private. The previous owner was called Johannes Hage and he decided in 1901 that the area should be a romantic park, according to the English principles. However, the park as we see it today is a reconstruction, carried out in the 1980s by Christian Hage.

As something very special, the park has a reserve for words that need protection, or as they call it, a reserve for endangered words. Here you can go on a word safari with your children or grandchildren. Examples of what kind of words and expressions you might come across could be: Gift thief which means "person who cheats and is cheeky in a charming way" or get on the hump, which means "to be scolded".

In the park is also Nivaagaard's Painting Collection, which is a small museum, here you will find works of art from several different style periods. Admission is free for children under 18, adults can get admission for under DKK 100. (updated Sep 2022). Nivaagaard's Painting Collection also has a cafe that you can visit, but it is recommended that you book a table here in advance. More information about opening times etc. can be found here: https://www.nivaagaard.dk/praktisk-info/
