Cycle routes in South Jutland​ 2024

South Jutland offers exciting cycling routes for every taste. The coastal area along the Wadden Sea and the Baltic Sea is perfect for relaxing walks with wonderful views. Experience the unique marsh landscape and visit charming coastal towns along the way. Inland there are beautiful routes through green meadows, forests and historic landscapes. Explore the lakes and rivers on family-friendly trails or challenge yourself on hilly mountain bike trails.

With these beautiful settings, South Jutland forms the starting point for many fantastic cycling tours and nature experiences.

National Cycle Route 3: The Hærvej route

On the Hærvejsruten you pass numerous cultural sights and some of the country's most beautiful natural areas. In the south, for example, you can experience landscapes around the Kongeåen and Jels lakes, in Central Jutland you can take a short detour to the sources of Gudenåen and Skjernåen, and in Dollerup Bakker not only some of the route's steepest climbs await, but also a magnificent view of Hald Sø. Further north, the route goes through Rold Forest close past Store Økssø and Rebild Bakker. Just after you have crossed over the Limfjord Bridge to Nørresundby, you can make your way past Lindholm Høje, Denmark's largest ancient cemetery.

The Royal March Route

This is a "both-and" trip by bike. You cycle both in Denmark and Germany. You will experience the history of the hard-working farmers in Tøndermarsken and the history of the impressive royal palace, Schackenborg. The bike ride goes through the small peaceful villages and to Denmark's oldest market town, Tønder, with trade and activity.

Ribe is Denmark's oldest city and is located in the middle of the Wadden Sea National Park. In many places in the countryside, you cycle past traces of the Viking Age and feel how people have lived here for centuries under the conditions of nature. The southern Jutland marshes have shaped the old Viking town, for better or for worse, and you can see markings from the storm surges that have ravaged the area.

Air Under Wings

Air under the wings, the smell of the sea, life and happy days. This, added to an irresistible charm from Nordby, means that thoughts about how life should be lived come up again several times along the way on this charming bike ride.

North Sea Nature Park

The raw, flat heath lies at your feet when you cycle. The heather colors the field of vision, while the lark's song fills the ear canals. You can find edible mushrooms and Nordic herbs. And in front of you, a crown beast might appear before it rushes on into the plantation.

National Cycle Route 1: The West Coast Route

With the North Sea as a safe guideline, the West Coast Route moves effortlessly and at times in an almost constant crosswind through centuries-old natural and cultural landscapes. There is a guarantee of fresh sea air, space for reflection and beautiful West Sea sunsets.

The route winds through marshland, heath and dune plantations, past fjords, lakes, a geopark, national and nature parks, and along wide, white sandy beaches. Everywhere there is a rich wildlife on land, water and not least in the air.

The border route

The border route is a trip of 131 km, which stretches from the Wadden Sea to Flensburg Fjord, along the way the border is crossed 13 times. Along the route, rest areas with bicycle huts have been set up, in addition you can find 40 information boards with stories about the border region.

Between sea and fjord

The trip starts at Bork Harbour, the wind is most often from the south-west, and if you start to the north, the chance of a tailwind increases on the most beautiful stretches. Bork Havn has plenty of atmosphere, and at Feriepartner Bork Havn you will find bike hire with many different bikes and sizes. There is also surf rental and surf school for those who would like a few hours of fun and challenge before the bike ride.

National Cycle Route 8: Baltic Route

This cycle route forms an impressive loop of over 800 kilometers that stretches through the southern part of Denmark. The route is divided into 20 stages. It is an odyssey through maritime Denmark, where you will cross eight bridges and take five ferries – or even more, as there are countless small islands that tempt you to take extra sailing trips along the way. The Baltic Sea Route is ideal if you love the sea, beaches and water sports, and even cyclists with a cultural interest will not be disappointed.

Regional route 23:
The Crooked Path

Den Skæve Bane is a historic and charming route that is suitable for both cycling and walking. It stretches between Grindsted and Funder near Silkeborg and follows the former railway line that once connected several towns in Central Jutland. The path takes you through the flat West Jutland landscape, where you will experience forest plantations and cross several creeks and streams. 

The waterway

The waterway is a beautiful cycling route along winding country roads and gravel paths around the Stenderup peninsula, which lies out to the Little Belt. So bring your swimwear and grab a dip along the way. In the beautiful old Stenderup forests, you will encounter thousands of year-old stone mounds and burial mounds, and at Solkær Enge, a unique natural area, you can experience a rich wildlife. The waterway is connected to the Green Ring and the routes in the Stenderup Forests.

Regional route 36: Bindeballestien

The route starts at Vestbanevej in Vejle, from where you cycle on the path which follows the tracks of the old Bindeballebane between Vejle and Vandel. The route stretches over 36 km, along the way there are many fantastic experiences and sights. There are plenty of options for accommodation during the route, where you can choose between the slightly more luxurious hotel accommodation at Haraldskær Sinatur Hotel & Conference or a tented accommodation at one of three primitive campsites.
