It rattles underfoot when you walk through the gate to Herregården Hessel, because the topped cobblestones are an uneven surface. From the dusty cobblestones, the chalk-white half-timbering rises, and the thatched roof sits like the top of it all, ready to welcome you. Through the cracks, the smell of freshly baked bread and freshly ground coffee creeps into the courtyard to lure the maids and grooms of the past and the visitors of today, because the day can only really begin when breakfast is served.
