Experience the Kalk Kaminoen

The Limestone Kamino takes the hiker through a beautiful landscape of great natural and cultural-historical value. The route starts and ends in Stoholm and Skelhøje, respectively, from where you can continue along the Hærvejen to the north and south. You can of course walk the route in both directions. The landscape in the northern part of the hiking route is strongly influenced by centuries of lime quarrying in Daugbjerg and Mønsted. The flat heathland areas open up further south, where the first major attempt at heathland cultivation was carried out by German colonists at Grønhøj and Havredal in the 1760s, and the first actual afforestation took place at Stendal in 1788.

Artist Thomas Dambo has become well-known for his trolls, which are built from recycled wood and hidden all over the world. There are also quite a few hidden in Denmark, and since May 2023 you have also been able to go hunting for one in Viborg!

Latinerhaven in Viborg

The Latin Garden in Viborg is a beautiful, historic garden located by Viborg Cathedral. Originally laid out in the 1920s, the garden serves as a green sanctuary in the middle of the city, where visitors can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the well-kept flower beds and green areas. The garden is named after the old Latin school that was previously located nearby. The Latin Garden offers a varied planting with perennials, roses and shrubs, making it a favorite place for both locals and tourists who want a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Explore all of Africa in just a few minutes or jump from continent to continent around the world – it sounds pretty incredible, but it can actually be done when you visit the World Map in Klejtrup just outside Viborg. You can experience the entire world map with lakes, rivers and mountain ranges in miniature in scenic surroundings. The Five Halders

The Five Halder near Viborg is a cultural and historical area that contains the ruins of five different castles, spanning more than 800 years. The area, located by the scenic Hald Lake, includes Hald Castle from the 13th century, Hald Manor from the 18th century, Borgvoldene from the 14th century, Støvhøj from the late 15th century and Ny Hald from the 19th century. Explore the historic ruins, walk on scenic hiking trails and take part in guided tours to gain a deeper insight into the area's rich history and natural beauty. Viborg Cathedral

Viborg Cathedral beautifully adorns the cityscape of the central Jutland city, which has had the status of a cathedral city since 1060. The oldest part of the church can almost be dated back to the year 1060, and the church is therefore something of a historical time capsule. The church contains an incredible amount of history, and has had great significance for both Viborg and all of Denmark throughout time. Take a trip with Margrethebåden

On a trip with the Margrethe boat on both Nørresø and Søndersø, you can experience the old capital from a completely new angle. From the boat, you can experience beautiful nature, beautiful houses and a fantastic view of Viborg from the lakeside. The trip lasts about an hour, and it starts and ends at the Golf Salon – where after the trip you can enjoy the tempting cake table or try one of their delicious lunch dishes.

Experience Snapsting in Viborg

Snapsting is a 10-day cultural festival in Viborg, which is based on old traditions. The events consist of a fantastic mix of culture, concerts, sports, games and parties for both young and old. The original Snapsting in Viborg is actually a tradition dating back to the 15th century, and it existed for a full 400 years. At that time, the city was the capital of Denmark, and people flocked to the city from near and far to be part of the folk festival. Explore Hald Lake

Hald Sø is one of Denmark's cleanest and deepest lakes, and it is located in the scenic Dollerup Bakker. The hilly landscape offers a wealth of fantastic hiking routes, which take you through oak forests, heath plantations, Stanghede and agricultural areas. You can also explore the area's dramatic history of the leading noble families back from around the 14th century. You can see ruins from the nobles' heyday in the area around the lake.

In 2026, the Wibergis Museum will open its doors, telling the story of Viborg, which became a meeting place for power for 1,000 years. Museum Wibergis is located in the middle of the cathedral district in Viborg, inviting you on a journey through the city's history. With atmospheric scenography, animation, light and sound, the history comes alive.

Kongenshus Hede

Kongenshus Hede is one of Denmark's largest continuous heathlands, the scenic area stretches as far as the eye can see. You can delve into the area's cultural history in Kongenshus Mindepark, where 300 memorial stones have been set in honor of the farmers who were responsible for cultivating the heath in their time. Explore Mønsted Kalkgruber

Visit the world's largest limestone mine in Mønsted just outside Viborg! The limestone mine offers an endless labyrinth of mine tunnels with huge caves and narrow passages. There are a total of 60 km of underground passages, but it is only possible for visitors to explore 2 km of these. 

You can experience a light show in the underground cinema by the lime mine's largest lake. The light show is shown once an hour, and the show tells the story of the place - both a beautiful and educational experience.
