Experiences in Sønderborg 2025

Sønderborg is a beautiful city, which we have called our attention to several times in recent years. Among other things, we have been over to award diplomas to the country's best ice house in 2020 as well as best burger in 2019.

Below you will find our tips for places to experience, eat and spend the night in and around Sønderborg.

Go on Gendarmstien

The Gendarmstien winds along the coast from Padborg in the west to Høruphav on Als in the east and is one of Denmark's most beautiful hiking routes. If you don't have the courage to walk the entire 84 km long hiking trail, you can also just walk one of the five day stages of the Gendarmstien: the mountain stage, the brick stage, the crow stage, the beach stage or the mill stage.

Take a dip on the Fly Paper

On the other side of Sønderborg Castle you will find Fluepapiret, a beautiful little beach. Here is a jetty and ice cream parlor as well as the Blue Flag. Ideal for cooling down in the summer.

Take a walk by the Little Sea

At Augustenborg a little outside Sønderborg you will find Lillehav. The game reserve offers beautiful nature, a beautiful little path and a rich bird life with many different kinds of ducks.

Sønderborg Castle

Sønderborg Castle, with its magnificent location at the entrance to Sønderborg, is a national Danish icon. The castle contains almost 800 years of dramatic history of Southern Jutland and Schleswig.

Enjoy nature in Nørreskoven

A large forest on Als with marked hiking trails where you can experience a rich wildlife and beautiful natural scenery. Ideal for walks and picnics.

The Multicultural House

A cultural hub with a library and art exhibitions. Free events and exhibitions are often held and are open to the public.

The adventure park where fun is a science

Universe Science Park

In the park, you can play your way to knowledge about technology and science when you visit Universe Science Park on Als. Get up close to natural phenomena and see wild forces of nature up close. And that's not all: You can also try the park's Segways, many VR attractions and much more!

Southern Denmark's largest playground

Jump A Lot

Take a trip near Rødekro to Southern Denmark's largest playground with lots of indoor and outdoor activities! There's something for children of all ages here - whether you're into ball games, arcades, bowling or something else. There's almost a guarantee of tired children afterwards! Psst... They say it's a little fun for the adults too!

Visit Dybbøl Mill and the 1864 Museum

At Historiecenter Dybbøl Banke, you enter directly into the dramatic days during the war in 1864. You yourself become part of the drama, and you gain new knowledge about one of the most important battles in Danish history. Also enjoy the view of Sønderborg, Dybbøl Mill and the many hiking routes in the area.
