History and background

Tivoli, officially known as Tivoli Gardens, is one of the world's oldest amusement parks and is deeply rooted in Copenhagen's cultural and historical landscape. The park was founded by Georg Carstensen in 1843 with a vision to create a place where "people can enjoy themselves", and since then it has been a center for entertainment and culture in the heart of the Danish capital.

Tivoli's original concept was inspired by early 19th-century European pleasure gardens, and Carstensen convinced then-King Christian VIII that such a place would distract citizens from politics. With the king's blessing, Tivoli quickly became a reality.

Over the years, Tivoli has undergone many changes, but has always retained its charm and appeal. From the early days of live music, theater performances and simple carousels to the modern, high-tech rides, Tivoli has always been ahead of the times, while the park has retained its historic essence.

Tivoli has also played host to many famous personalities over time, including Hans Christian Andersen and Walt Disney, who were both inspired by the park's magic. Andersen, the famous Danish fairy tale writer, often found inspiration in Tivoli's atmosphere, while Disney is said to have used Tivoli as inspiration when creating Disneyland.
