Rold Skov

Denmark's largest forrest

Rold Skov is Denmark’s largest forest and offers a wealth of different natural experiences. For example, visit fairytale-like parts of Rold Skov, where old, bent beech trees grow in the forests of Troldeskoven and Urskoven. You can combine this with a walk over the heather-clad hills, Rebild Bakker, with their views over the valley, Gravlev Ådal.

The oldest beech trees in Troldeskoven and Urskoven are over 300 years old. The very oldest beech trees can be found in Troldeskoven. Both Troldeskoven and Urskoven are undisturbed forests, left to look after itself. If a tree dies and falls down, it is left there and a new one is not planted in its place. A natural mixture of trees of all ages, types and sizes are therefore present. Apart from beech forests and heather, Rold Skov offers various natural landscapes and attractions, such as river valleys, lakes, springs, bogs, sinkholes, limestone quarries and mines, burial mounds and churches.

Rold Skov offers visitors a range of different activities all year round. You can also experience the forest yourself on a walking or cycling trip. The forest contains some of Denmark’s best mountain bike routes and natural playgrounds, and there are abundant parking opportunities.

  1. The most beautiful forest and lake.

Rold Skov is a nice place all year round. There is a wonderful scent to sniff while walking in, for example, The Jutland Forest Garden, which is also a dog forest. I always come home happier and the dog relaxed because he has been allowed to run and sense.

Not far from there is St. Økssø, which is also nice to go for a walk or winter swimming in.
