Orø

An island with lots of experiences

Orø is located in the Isefjord. The island has an area of 14 km2 and houses 968 inhabitants, which has been increasing since 2013 and testifies to how popular the island has become. You can hop on the ferry in Holbæk which takes about 25 minutes, or you can take the ferry from Hammer Bakke which takes about 6 minutes. 

Orø has many experiences to offer. There is, for example, Hestebedgård Museum, which is a family farm where you can experience memorial rooms, a museum and a showroom. 

In addition, there is Orø Church, which dates back to the 12th century. In addition to the church being a very beautiful whitewashed church, there are also often events that you can attend. It can be both concerts and cultural events.

Orø also has a zoo, namely Orøstrand Zoo, where you can see more than 400 animals divided into 50 different species. For example, you will be able to see fallow deer, ostriches, llamas, silk monkeys and much more. In the park you will also be able to see Denmark's largest python snake at 5 meters. The zoo has many activities for children, and large and small can follow when there is feeding time and here see the animals up close. It is a very special experience, and a visit to the park sets the framework for a fantastic and exciting day for you who visit Orø.

Frequently asked questions

You can either take the ferry from Holbæk or from Hammer Bakke. With Holbæk Færgen, the sailing time is approx. 25 minutes, where towards the sailing time with Østre Færgen (the one from Hammer Bakke) is approx. 6 minutes.
