Behind Aalborg's busy shopping street Algade, lies the oasis Mølleå and in it you will find Mortens Kro. Since 1997, Morten has served food in a class that very few traditional inns can attend.
While most Aalborg restaurants at the time struggled to serve the cheapest 3-course menu, Morten Kok picked up his ingredients in the nature of North Jutland and from small local producers - well, long before Noma and Ny Nordisk made it modern.
Today, Mortens Kro has got significantly more competition, because Aalborg has got a lot of delicious gourmet restaurants. However, it in no way makes Mortens Kro stop or seem old-fashioned. Just look at the open sandwich, which in these years is having a huge renaissance. Mortens Kro has been serving it since 2013.
Precisely the above helps to give an idea of why Mortens Kro is one of the absolute best restaurants in Aalborg and North Jutland. And you do not have to take our word for it, because if you have only seen a few reviews from Nordjyske over the past many years, then Mortens Kro has always been one of the few places that has boasted 6 out of 6 forks.

Stay at the seaside hotel
There are many who are not aware of it, but it is actually possible to enjoy a stay at Mortens Kro, as modern luxury suites have been furnished on the 2nd floor. Combine the view of Aalborg with the class from Morten's kitchen and then you have the recipe for an Aalborg stay that hardly goes wrong.
& #8220; We had booked a gourmet overnight stay in one of the inn's suites. Even when we entered the suite (which is a nice apartment) we were blown back. And it continued when we came down to the restaurant a few hours later. We were given a 5 course tasting menu with accompanying wine menu. We chose to buy cheese too. Everything tasted amazing. And was made with perfection. I can't exactly reproduce what we got. But there was plenty. Also of the wine. But look at the pictures & #8211; they speak for themselves. The service was polite, present, fun, empathetic & #8211; in other words perfect. The lady had been burned on her arms when we drove here in the summer car. We asked if they had any cream. They did not. But the waiter sent a message to Føtex after some aftersun. It's so good style. The acoustics in the inn room (it's a mild North Jutland understatement to call it an inn & #8211; it's a top restaurant) is super good. The decor is decadent in the cool way. There is no doubt that Mortens Kro is something quite exceptional. And for the price, it's all worth it. You can feel that the money goes a little further in North Jutland than in Aarhus. Discover Denmark's tips for Mortens Kro
- Not everyone knows, but Mortens Kro serves sandwiches for lunch that only a few others can do (they know where you can't make it yourself). One of the best lunches in Aalborg, if you ask us.
- Also, not many people know that Mortens Kro has luxury suites on top of the restaurant, which you can book for delicious gourmet stays. However, we have not tried these yet.
