Art museum and magnificent scenery

About midway between Tjen and Gudhjem are the shrine cliffs up to 20 meters high. For millennia, surfing has eroded the rocky coast and created deep gorges in the mountains. Back after this are the sharp cuts, jagged granite columns and steep rock walls with deep corridors and caves, the so-called "stoves". The deepest caves are called Wet Oven, Dry Oven and Big Pot, and you can follow them far into the mountain. This is especially true of Black Pot, where you can penetrate 60 meters. This cave is also home to the Bornholm cave otter cup.

The rocks are named after a holy spring that had its outlet at the foot of these rocks and which caused many people to come to this place to be cured of their diseases. Later, the rocks were given romantic names, e.g. The Light Rock, the Moonlight Clips, and the Love Bench.

Discover Denmark's tips for the Sanctuary Cliffs

Every summer, the small boat M / S Thor sails around with a guide from Gudhjem to the Shrine of the Shrines. It is a super nice trip and from the sea side you get the best overview of the many different rock formations.

In the magnificent scenery of the Shrine Cliffs you will also find Bornholm Art Museum, which is worth a visit. Whether you are into architecture and crafts, you will find here a café that with great views is worth taking advantage of in connection with the trip out to the cliffs.

What do the visitors say?

A different and beautiful piece of Danish nature. You can take a short hike on the trail. If you want an easy challenge, you can go out on the various cliffs. The biggest experience is Black Pot, but it is not too difficult to walk. Our children of 6 and 10 were well in, they thought it was exciting and a little creepy. We saw no spiders.

Incredibly beautiful scenery, unbelievable that this can be seen within the Danish border. Must be experienced and seen, we were all empty of words. It is so beautiful, 100% is MUST!

Beautiful and exquisite nature, where you have a unique view. However, wear good walking / hiking shoes. At the same time, it is not too difficult to walk.

Truly a beautiful sight. Especially if you take the seaside with M / S Thor from Gudhjem. Choose a windy day, it's fucking fun with all the rocking, like a roller coaster.

We walked from the parking lot on the sanctuary road through the forest to the Bornholm Art Museum and from here down to the sanctuary cliffs, here there are many different viewpoints and really good stairs everywhere down to the foot of the cliffs. Fantastic nice place that we had not heard of before.
