Harrild Hede

Peaceful natural landscape

Harrild Hede is an open and peaceful natural landscape. Here, you can experience the great expanses and varying nature of the heath landscape, alternating between heathland, wet areas and coniferous plantations.

On the heath you can see small bushes and grasses, such as heather, crowberry, petty whin, wavy hair grass, thyme, bell heather and club moss. As no plants are above knee height, there are good views of both sky and land. Various species of birds thrive in the water meadows, adders inhabit the heather and herds of red deer roam the plantations. Towards the southern border of Harrild Hede, fresh water trickles along the waterway Holtum Å, which meanders naturally through the landscape. Perhaps you can see an otter or a kingfisher along the river? These are both difficult to spot, but with a little luck it’s possible.

The previous watermill, Harrild Vandmølle, now functions as the nature centre, Naturcenter Harrild Hede, offering many facilities. This provides a good starting point for cycling and walking trips over the heath. There are toilets and a number of parking places at the nature centre.
