Femø

Femø is located in Smålandsfarvandet north of Lolland. The island has an area of 11.5 km2 and here live about 121 people. You can hop on the ferry in Kragenæs on Lolland, and the boat trip takes about 50 minutes. The island of Fejø is the neighboring island to Femø, and the ferry also goes from Kragenæs. 

There are 2 towns on Femø, namely Nørreby and Sønderby. On Fejø there are also two towns and they are of course called Vesterby and Østerby. 

Femø has a particularly interesting history, as it was here that the world's first women's camp was established, namely the red stocking movement. It was founded in 1971 and at that time there were about 400 women who participated in the 8 week long camp, where only women and children were welcome. Interest in the women's camp grew and grew, but there was disagreement about the very purpose of the camp, and this meant that the Femø women detached themselves from the movement in 1984. After that, it was the Femø women alone who ran the annual camp. To this day, there is still an annual 8-week camp where women meet and talk about far and wide. 

You can visit Femø Church on the island, which dates back to the 16th century. In addition, you can visit the island's museum, where you can see a large collection of stones, stuffed animals and ancient effects from various professions.

In Nørreby you can see the Blackboards, which date from the First World War. The boards were then hung up on the grocery store by schoolteacher Lindhardt, who wrote daily updates on the course of the war, so that the rest of the inhabitants could follow. 

Once a year, the Femø Jazz Festival is held. The festival was first piled on the legs back in 1970 and has been running annually ever since.
