Egeskov

One of Funen's main attractions

You will find Egeskov castle in the southern part of Funen, and if you are interested in either castles, vintage cars, an exciting history or beautiful gardens, then this is just the place for you.

From main farm to Renaissance castle

Egeskov castle started as an unfortified village main farm in the 15th century, but during the 16th century it was built up to the water and Renaissance castle we can see today. It is one of the best-preserved Renaissance castles in Northern Europe.

This was done by Frands Brockenhuus, as one of the most educated men of his time. He was among the king's most trusted men at the time.

Egeskov veterans museum

At Egeskov castle you can find the veteran museum, which is a large collection of planes, motorcycles and vintage cars that the Ahlefeldt family has collected for more than half a century.

You can explore the extensive collection of vintage cars and see the very early Ford, Chevrolet and Mercedes models, which look very different from the cars we drive around today. In addition, there is also a Cadillac that Christian X has driven.

The cars are from several decades and from several countries, and you can see up close what differences there may be in the cars, depending on where they are from. There are many opportunities for conversations across generations, or just an opportunity to see how the cars' appearance has changed over time.

When you have walked around between the cars, you can take the trip up under the ceiling, where a landing has been established with a view of the collection. Here you can also see Danish-produced mopeds from, among others, The 1960s.

The garden

The Egeskov castle garden is in itself a great experience, as you can find various garden facilities, some of which are over 300 years old. You will find i.a. hedges in linden, beech or hornbeam which were planted in 1713, and today are 8 meters high.

In addition, you will also find the castle park's old labyrinth, which dates from 1730. It was originally intended as an entertainment and playroom for the noble family, but today it is considered a sanctuary, both for the family and also for visiting summer guests.

In recent times, the Rose Garden and the Perfume Garden have been created, and in the latter it is even allowed to touch the plants.

There are also even more gardens to explore. The Useeum app also contains a guide to the castle's large garden, so you can hear the history of the different parts of it.

The museum mystery

If you have a smartphone, you can also download the "Useeum" app. Here you can play the Museums mystery, where you can solve a mystery while moving around the various exhibitions as well as the garden at Egeskov castle.

The app is especially suitable for children aged 6 and up! It is also only a small part of games that require you to use the phone.

It is an opportunity for you to interact with the exhibition in a different way. You have to observe, count, examine and, not least, interact with the surroundings in order to solve the mystery.

The mystery takes you through the castle's various exhibitions and parts of the garden, and can contribute to a different way of visiting Egeskov Castle.
