As part of the Vestegnens Culture Week in 2016, artist Thomas Dambo built 6 giants out of recycled wood, well hidden by forest, lakes and hilltops in selected places on Vestegnen (West of Copenhagen).
Take a walk in the beautiful scenery and see if you can find The 6 Forgotten Giants, which animate play and fantasy for both kids and adults.
Art in nature
The aim of the project is to bring the art outside the walls of the museum and into the nature on the Copenhagen Vestegn. The project encourages you to explore the beautiful and overlooked nature, thereby providing a different experience.
All six giants are built with the help of numerous local volunteers. The sculptures are built entirely of waste wood from local demolition projects, old twigs and residual wood.
Teddy Friendly in Høje Taastrup
Teddy Friendly you will find in Høje Taastrup, where he stands by a small river next to a lake. He holds out one arm to help people across. To build Teddy's beard and coat, cuts from newly felled trees have been used. He is named after a very kind and hardworking guy who helped creating the sculpture.
You will find Teddy at the intersection on the map below.
Little Tilde in Vallensbæk
You will find Lille Tilde in the area at Vallensbæk Mose, where she lurks through the trees on the wild nature and rich wildlife. As a bonus, artist Thomas Dambo has built 28 hidden birdhouses inside the sculpture until the cold hits the marsh. Little Tilde is named after one of the employees who helped build the sculpture.
You will find Tilde at junction # 4 on the map below.
Thomas on the Mountain in Albertslund
Thomas On the Mountain you will find in a clearing at the top of the mountain in Albertslund, where he relaxes and enjoys the view of Kongsholm Park. Maybe you want to sit on his long legs and enjoy the view with him? The sculpture is named after Thomas Dambo's intern, also named Thomas, who has been part of the project from the beginning.
You will find Thomas at junction # 5 on the map below.
Oscar Under the Bridge in Ishøj
Oscar Under the Bridge you will find at Ishøj Strandpark. Among other things, he is made of waste wood from a downed watermill, and then he is named after an artist from Chile who helped build the sculpture.
You will find Oscar at the intersection on the map below.
Sleeping Louis in Rødovre
Sleeping Louis lies in a clearing at the top of a small hill in Rødovre. Inside the sculpture there is a small cave that you can climb into through Louis' mouth. He is named after Thomas Dambo's former intern from England who helped build the sculpture.
You will find Louis at the intersection on the map below.
Hill Top Trine in Hvidovre
Hill Top Trine lies on a small hill in Hvidovre. If you crawl up into her palms you get a unique view of the Avedøreslet. She is named after one of the volunteers who helped build one of the other giants.
You will find Trine at the intersection on the map below.

The chosen place
Where are the fighters?
The 6 forgot to find these places:
Number 1 is located in Brøndbyøster.
Number 2 is located in Avedøre
Number 3 is located in Ishøj
Number 4 is located in Vallensbæk
Number 5 is located in Albertslund
Number 6 is located in Høje Taastrup
What is the purpose?
The purpose of The 6 Forgotten Giants is for people to see a beautiful nature that you did not see before because you took other, easier roads. They are some of the "difficult roads", but they have made people go the more roads to see them, so it's really good.
Who made them?
Thomas Dambo. They are made entirely from recycled wood and he has also made several fights just in other countries.
Our rating for The 6 Forgotten Giants is 4 out of 5 stars. We think it's good to go out to the 6 Forgotten Giants because:
You come out in a beautiful nature that you don't see in many other places. The fighters are also very big and something you can't see anywhere else in Denmark, which makes it more exciting. We also think it's a bit like a treasure hunt when you need to find them, and at the same time you use your senses.
Our recommendation is that it's cool, but you should NOT go out there on a rainy day (as we did).
Experiences and practical info
At point (1, -1) you will find little Tilde, which is hiding among the fir trees at Lake Tueholm. In the next point (-2.7) you will find Thomas on the mountain. He is at a high point, which is why his name is Thomas mountain. In point (9, -4) you will find one cafe / restaurant on the way to little Tilde, where you can stop and buy an ice cream (if open). At the point (9, - 4) you will find a toilet that is close by side of the cafe / restaurant.
The good play
These are our suggestions on what to play / make about the 6 Forgotten Kæmper. We think can hide could be a cool thing to do with the 6 Forgotten Giants. What you need: You need a prisoner and a "can" such as Thomas at the foot of the mountain. And a good hiding place for those who hide, of course.
Step 1: the catcher must count to 10, or whatever you want.
Step 2: everyone should find a good hiding place so the catcher doesn't find you.
Step 3: when the prisoner has spoken, he / she must find the others without running to the can, saying & #8220; all out of the can & #8221; Otherwise, the catcher must count from the front and find the others again.
Step 4: when all is found, the first one to be found must be the catcher. And then again and again until you don't bother anymore.
Geography / transport
Take the green B regional train towards Høje Taastrup and get off at Albertslund. There are 8 stops along the way and the train runs approx. every 10 min. It costs DKK 26 with a travel card. Then get off the train and walk for approx. 30/45 min, past high school and along the small terraced houses until you reach a small path, which you have to follow to some summer houses, until you reach a cafe / restaurant. Then turn right and go straight for approx. 2 min. And then it stands small Tilt and peek forward from a tree. If you need to find Thomas on the mountain, follow a path for approx. 45 min. Then you go up a mountain to a clearing and there lies Thomas on the mountain and sunbathing all year round.
