Active Esbjerg Beach
Aqtiv is a water experimentarium in the lagoon behind the artificial harbor island on Esbjerg Strand. Here you can swim from a new, delicious floating jetty. After the swim, you can jump under the outdoor showers or warm up in the sauna. You can change in the new changing rooms, go to the toilet and if you remember a lock, you can lock your valuables inside the lockers while you are on the water.
In addition, you can look forward to even more water sports facilities, including various obstacle courses, water polo courses, swimming courses, a wakeboard course and much more, which both experienced and new water dogs can try their hand at when the next phase of the project is ready.
An oasis for water lovers
Aqtiv Esbjerg Strand is more than just a beach; it is an extensive water recreation area that offers a variety of activities for all ages and skill levels. From obstacle courses and water polo courses to swimming courses and a wakeboard course, there is something for everyone. These facilities are designed to challenge and entertain while ensuring the safety and comfort of all visitors.
Modern Facilities and Comfort
The newly constructed building at Aqtiv Esbjerg Strand is a fusion of functionality and aesthetics. Integrated into the natural landscape, the building offers modern changing rooms, toilets and a sauna. The floating bridge provides easy access to the water, and the outdoor showers and sauna ensure a pleasant experience after a day in the water.
The sauna: A warm refuge
The sauna at Aqtiv Esbjerg Strand is a unique feature. Open twice daily and free to the public, it offers a relaxing and refreshing experience. However, it is important to follow the guidelines for using the sauna stove to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.
Safety and Sustainability
Safety and sustainability are central elements in Aqtiv Esbjerg Strand. The water quality is closely monitored, and a red flag system warns bathers when the water quality is not optimal. This system ensures that all visitors can enjoy the water activities with peace of mind.

On Thursday 18 January 2024, the sauna is closed in the morning as it needs maintenance. The sauna opens again and can be used in the evening on the same day.
The sauna is open at 07-09 and again at 16-18.
Operating funds have been set aside for four hours of daily opening hours. It has been decided to distribute them with two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon/evening.
For safety reasons, it has been decided that the opening hours follow dusk, as Esbjerg Municipality does not want to encourage people to bathe in the dark.
There are guide lines and attention fields for the visually impaired, and there are handrails at the stairs towards the floating bridge. There is a disabled toilet with changing facilities adapted for wheelchair users, just as access to the sauna is adapted for wheelchair users.
During normal tides, the slope of the gangway to the floating bridge will comply with accessibility recommendations, but extreme tides may briefly change this.
Next phase
In phase 2 of Aqtiv Esbjerg Strand, which is expected to be ready for use in mid-2024, the floating bridge will be twice as long and equipped with another ramp, so that a wheelchair user can get all the way down to the lower deck.
Initially, lift solutions will not be established, as Esbjerg Municipality would like to assess the need and decide on the options when and if a specific need arises. On the other hand, work is being done to create a handicap-friendly access to the water across the stonework, so that you can not only get into the water from the floating bridge, but also from the path by the building with changing rooms, sauna etc.
Background
As we developed the project, it was reviewed for accessibility and the comments were incorporated into the project. Esbjerg Municipality's local consultation parties, the Elderly Council and the Handicap Council, were also presented with the project with the opportunity to make comments.
It is currently not possible to book the sauna for an event.
We have held a meeting with a group of users who, in collaboration with Esbjerg Municipality, are organizing how it can become possible with more opening hours. A public information association will probably be set up, which will be responsible for booking and user payment for extended opening hours. It will hopefully be in place during the spring of 2024.
Sauna fumes and scented oils may NOT be used during public opening hours.
Many would like to drive over the bridge and park in the square or the road on the dike.
It will not be allowed. The road is a work and rescue road. Please note that you must park on the harbor island's 'side streets' and parking lots.
