Denmark's largest church room without supporting columns

The Church of the Brethren

The Church of the Brethren, also known as the "Salshuset", is an impressive architectural gem in Christiansfeld. Inaugurated on 13 August 1777 and expanded just 20 years later with two side wings, it is Denmark's largest church space without supporting columns with room for approximately 1,000 people.

The church, like many of the town's houses, is listed and bears the stamp of simplicity with its all-white interior without an altar, baptismal font or wall decoration. Instead of a pulpit, there is a liturgy table where the priest leads the service.

The church's lighting includes beautiful, hand-forged chandeliers from 1776, and the floor is sand-strewn and untreated. A prominent element is the large Marcussen organ from 1865 with 20 voices.

All are welcome to attend services and church activities in this historic church.
