Go on Gendarmstien

The Gendarmstien winds along the coast from Padborg in the west to Høruphav on Als in the east and is one of Denmark's most beautiful hiking routes. If you don't have the courage to walk the entire 84 km long hiking trail, you can also just walk one of the five day stages of the Gendarmstien: the mountain stage, the brick stage, the crow stage, the beach stage or the mill stage.

Fanø Bunkers

During World War II, many bunkers were built along the Danish west coast, more precisely 300, as it was a good and particularly strategic location for the Germans. You can experience the remains of the structures here on the island, which gives an exciting insight into the times at that time.

Head from Rømø to the mainland at Skærbæk and experience the Marsk Tower for yourself. It is a viewing tower 25 meters above the ground that allows you to experience a panoramic (360 degree) view of the marsh.

Sønderborg Castle, with its magnificent location at the entrance to Sønderborg, is a national Danish icon. The castle contains almost 800 years of dramatic history of Southern Jutland and Schleswig.

Fanø Art Museum

Here you can experience art from both Danish, German and Swedish artists, and the art is mainly centered around the Wadden Sea island. The island became extremely popular with artists, probably due to the fantastic landscape, and they flocked here. Of course, you had to have a place to exhibit the many works, and this is where Fanø Art Museum was born. The museum is located in the town of Sønderho, so you can drop by the museum while you experience the rest of the town.

Zoo Vejle

Fjordenhus

Fjordenhus in Vejle, designed by Olafur Eliasson, is a unique architectural gem that stands directly in the Vejle Fjord. The building's organic shapes and reflective facades make it a living work of art. Open to visitors, Fjordenhus offers an impressive experience of modern design and beautiful views of the fjord, making it one of Vejle's most iconic sights.

The shooting house garden

Located right next to Dyrehaven, Skyttehushaven is a large park with a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers that invite you to play and relax. There is also a beach, a large stone bridge and a playground.

Active Esbjerg Beach

Aqtiv is a water experimentarium in the lagoon behind the artificial harbor island on Esbjerg Strand. Here you can swim from a new, beautiful floating bathing jetty. After your swim, you can jump under the outdoor showers or get warm in the sauna. You can change in the new changing rooms, go to the toilet and if you remember a lock, you can lock your valuables in the lockers while you are on the water.
Fanø's historic cities

Nordby and Sønderho

Nordby is the first thing you experience on Fanø, as the ferry from Esbjerg sails directly here. In the town you can take a walk down the harbor promenade, experience the fine streets in the town whose houses have not changed much since they were built in the 19th century, go into the town's church and much more. Sønderho is a beautiful little town, and many of the houses here are listed, as they want to maintain the atmosphere the old buildings give to the town. The town exudes relaxation and here you can get into gear with some wonderful walks in the nature around the town or some good food and drink.

Experience Rømø Dragon Festival

At the beginning of September every year you can experience the Rømø Dragon Festival. The festival is held at Lakolk Strand, and in 2022 it will take place on September 2nd - 4th. Take the family under your arm and experience this spectacular sight, which takes place on the beach these days. Thousands of colorful dragons adorn the sky above the beach - the dragons come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and colors, it is almost only your imagination that sets the limits.
Experience some UNESCO World Heritage

The Jellinge Monuments

The Jellinge Monuments, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, consist of two runestones erected by Gorm the Old and Harald Blåtand, which mark the transition to Christianity in Denmark. Together with the surrounding burial mounds and the reconstructed palisade, the monuments are a powerful symbol of Denmark's Viking Age and early kingship.
