Discover Northern Europe's largest collection of medicinal plants

The medicine gardens

The Medicinal Gardens in Tranekær contain Northern Europe's largest collection of medicinal plants divided into six themed gardens. The gardens offer an educational experience with signs explaining the medicinal uses of the plants. The place is family-friendly with a special nursery where all the plants are edible. It is all run by volunteers, and you can enjoy your own food in the scenic surroundings. Try the Øhavsstien stage 5 which takes you past these beautiful gardens!

Visit the Funen Village

Come out into the countryside in the middle of Odense city. In the Funen Village, farmers' wives, peasants and priestesses live, all of whom help to create an authentic story of how people lived in the 19th century. At this open-air museum, you can discover the history of Funen, and the place offers something for all ages.

This historic manor house offers various children's activities, including outdoor play in the courtyard, where children can explore nature and participate in hands-on activities.
Langeland's largest city

Rudkøbing

Rudkøbing is Langeland's largest town and is definitely worth a visit. You can stroll around the cozy cobblestone streets, take a stroll down to the marina or browse the many specialty shops the town has to offer. The town also offers experiences such as Langelands Museum, Rudkøbing Bymølle and the HC Ørsted Exhibition. The inhabitants of Rudkøbing are very proud of the former resident HC Ørsted. He was the discoverer of electromagnetism back in 1820, and in 1825 he succeeded in developing a method for extracting aluminum. There is therefore a statue of the professor in the town and you can also visit the HC Ørsted Exhibition where you can hear and read about his life and discoveries.

The Wild Horses

On Langeland you can experience wild horses. The wild horses live in enclosures, but the enclosures are enormous and at the same time the horses are allowed to live their own lives without being stabled or fed – and it is therefore possible to refer to them as wild horses. Visitors are free to enter the enclosures and are allowed to experience the wild horses up close.

At Marstal Maritime Museum you can take a journey through Danish maritime history from the 17th century to the present day. Nature destination Skovsgaard

Nature destination Skovsgaard on Langeland offers wild nature experiences with wild grazing and the opportunity to explore the area, where cattle and wild horses live freely. The estate has 400 hectares of land, of which 245 hectares are dedicated to nature and wild grazing. Children can explore nature, participate in treasure hunts and learn about biodiversity. Skovsgaard is owned by the Danish Nature Foundation and has a history that spans over 700 years.
Exciting nature area

Explore the Beak

The exciting nature area Næbbet stretches 300 meters out towards the South Funen Archipelago, and is one of the most interesting places for bird and plant enthusiasts on the whole of Ærø. In addition, the section between Skjoldnæs Lighthouse and Næbbet is a very polar place for anglers due to the water depth and the strong current. Go exploring on Næbbet and explore the area's diverse flora and fauna.
A restored and well-preserved burial mound

Hulbjerg Jættestue

Hulbjerg Jættestue in Sydlangeland is a well-preserved burial mound from the Stone Age, where you can experience an impressive structure. During excavations, the remains of 53 people were found, including 17 children, as well as interesting finds such as Denmark's oldest tooth drill. The Jættestue has been restored and is open to visitors who want to explore the ancient monuments in the scenic area.

Visit the Old Shipyard

At Det Gamle Værft you can experience live workshops where the whole family can get up close and personal with maritime history – and you can even get your hands dirty. The museum consists of two exhibition buildings, called Den Blå Hal and Værftshallen. The museum also spreads over the harbour area, where they have their own berth, among other things.
