Langdyssen Kong Humbles Grav

If you are interested in history and especially the Stone Age, then you should go out and experience some of the island's many ancient remains. For example, some of the many dolmens and giant's dens. Langeland is actually the place in the world with the most dolmens per km2. They can be found everywhere on the island, and tell a story about the times that once were. Langdyssen Kong Humble's Grave is the most famous of them all, and here are 77 curbstones. The area with the curbstones measures 55 meters in length and 8 meters in width. The owner of the land, farmer P. Chr. Jørgensen, has agreed to make the area public so that visitors can come and see the beautiful ancient monument. In addition to Langdyssen Kong Humble's Grave, there is also Bjerrebygaard Langdysse, Langdysse at Helletofte and Langdysse in Karskov. There are also several giant's dens, such as Jætteestuekammer in Kinderballe, Jætteestueen Myrebjerg and Jætteestueen Andemosehøj. All of these places could be an exciting visit for the tourist interested in history.

The medicine gardens

The Medicinal Gardens in Tranekær contain Northern Europe's largest collection of medicinal plants divided into six themed gardens. The gardens offer an educational experience with signs explaining the medicinal uses of the plants. The place is family-friendly with a special nursery where all the plants are edible. It is all run by volunteers, and you can enjoy your own food in the scenic surroundings. Try the Øhavsstien stage 5 which takes you past these beautiful gardens!

One of Denmark's most popular trees

Oehlenschläger's Beech

Oehlenschläger’s Beech in Stengade Forest on Langeland is said to be the place where the poet Adam Oehlenschläger was inspired to write Denmark’s national anthem, “Der er et yndigt land.” The tree stands close to the water in a clearing and is surrounded by beautiful nature, making it an ideal place for a break and reflection. Denmark's biggest rock

Close to the southeastern Funen village of Hesselager lies Denmark's largest stone - Damestenen. The 10-meter-high and 1,000-ton stone was brought here from Sweden by ice during the last ice age, and with its large size, it must be said to be an impressive sight.

Exciting nature area

Explore the Beak

The exciting nature area Næbbet stretches 300 meters out towards the South Funen Archipelago, and is one of the most interesting places for bird and plant enthusiasts on the whole of Ærø. In addition, the section between Skjoldnæs Lighthouse and Næbbet is a very polar place for anglers due to the water depth and the strong current. Go exploring on Næbbet and explore the area's diverse flora and fauna.
Nature in focus

Ristinge

If you want to get out into the raw nature, then the Ristinge peninsula is a good choice. Here you have the island's best beach and the cliff. The beach is 10 km long and it is therefore ideal to take a walk on the beach and enjoy the smell of the sea and at the same time maybe catch a glimpse of the many bird species in the area. The cliff extends over 2 km and in some places the cliff is up to 30 meters high. Here you can get a fantastic view of the Baltic Sea.

Museum experience for both large and small

Visit the Old Shipyard

At Det Gamle Værft you can experience live workshops where the whole family can get up close and personal with maritime history – and you can even get your hands dirty. The museum consists of two exhibition buildings, called Den Blå Hal and Værftshallen. The museum also spreads over the harbour area, where they have their own berth, among other things. The Wild Horses

On Langeland you can experience wild horses. The wild horses live in enclosures, but the enclosures are enormous and at the same time the horses are allowed to live their own lives without being stabled or fed – and it is therefore possible to refer to them as wild horses. Visitors are free to enter the enclosures and are allowed to experience the wild horses up close.

A historic windmill from 1846

Tranekær Slotsmølle

Tranekær Castle Mill is a historic windmill on Langeland, where the mill blades still turn and grind flour. Built in 1846 and previously part of Tranekær Castle, the mill today functions as a museum with exhibitions about the history of milling on the island. The mill is run by volunteers and is a beautiful example of preserved cultural heritage, where you can experience both the mill and its history up close.

Travel through time at the Marstal Maritime Museum

At Marstal Maritime Museum you can take a journey through Danish maritime history from the 17th century to the present day. The museum is housed in five different buildings close to the harbor in Marstal, and has 37 exhibition rooms where maritime history is brought to life – so you definitely won’t get bored on a visit to Marstal Maritime Museum.
