Gisselfeld Kloster

History of the monastery

Gisselfeld Monastery was founded in 1547 by Peder Oxe and has since played a central role in the history of Denmark.

Originally established as a monastery, the site was later transformed into a noble seat under the County of Gisselfeld. The monastery has preserved its historical architecture and significance over the centuries, making it a unique example of Danish Renaissance architecture. With its long and rich history, Gisselfeld has been home to many prominent families and is today one of Denmark's best-preserved manor houses, still oozing with history and tradition.
